Sumo Dog

Facts: Fast Casual Restaurant, Kitchen Layout Design & Coordination, Interior Design

Sumo Dog moved from Koreatown to the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica boasting a new facelift. Inspired by Japanese culture, the new Sumo Dog restaurant implements materials and graphics that produce a modern take on Japanese design. The bar is made with a concrete countertop and a wood die wall that replicates the look of Shou-Sugi-Ban charred wood. This traditional technique is characteristic to Japan and creates a durable and unique surface. The bamboo paneling and graphic canvas banners also add elements from the culture and create a façade that is minimal and elegant in design. Not only is the overall design of Sumo Dog inspired by the culture, but so is the food. Hot dogs and burgers are served with ingredients such as furikake, green onions, and wasabi, which puts a twist on typical American food.
