Inside the Gallery Food Hall on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica is a small pizza shop called Paperboy Pizza. The intent of the design was to create an atmosphere that resembles a divey and retro eatery off an urban street. This dynamic is created using rustic materials such as a concrete countertop complemented by a warm, live edge wood die wall, which imitates the materials one would see walking down a street. Venetian plaster and graphics on the walls are used to mimic graffiti art-filled alleys. Along the facade of the restaurant is a system of cold-rolled steel panels that adds to the rustic aesthetic of the pizza place. This is complemented with a rendition of the classic pizza restaurant red that surrounds the entrance as people walk up to order. To add to the retro look, the cookline is lined with bright pink tiles that spell out the restaurant’s name and draws people in to find out more about this unique restaurant.
