The Cloud project was directed at revitalizing a dark corridor in front of the Apple Store at Perimeter Mall. Due to the imbalance of poor, artificial lighting and natural sunlight from the skylights along the wing, a clever solution was needed. The intent was to create a light fixture that could provide ample visibility in the area while also incorporating a unique aesthetic for the shoppers as they navigate through the space. Veering away from the rigid orthogonal build-outs throughout the rest of the project, The Cloud took an organic approach through a series of 3-form panels, each custom made with slight adjustments to cascade as shoppers walked from one side to another. Lit by Birchwood Lighting’s NOLAN LED linear lights, the translucent 3Form panels provided The Cloud the signature transparency resembling natural clouds in the sky.
