“Every element should have a reason for being there and support the story and intent of the space.”
Finding the Story Behind the Space
As a Job Captain at ADC, Ellie works at the intersection of design, technical coordination, and problem-solving. She helps carry projects from city submission through bid and IFC, coordinating with ADC’s internal team, the Architect of Record, consultants, and clients to resolve issues while keeping the design intent consistent throughout the drawings.
Ellie is most energized by the problem-solving side of the process. She enjoys working through details, identifying conflicts, and finding solutions that make sense both technically and visually. For her, the goal is not simply to solve a problem, but to understand what the design is trying to achieve before making a change.
That focus on intent also shapes the way she thinks about interiors. Ellie is drawn to the point where materials, finishes, lighting, and details begin to work together and bring a space to life. She believes every element should have a purpose and that the strongest spaces feel coherent because their individual decisions support a larger idea.
Collaboration is a major part of how Ellie works. She values the different perspectives that clients, colleagues, consultants, and contractors bring to a project, and she often finds that talking through a challenge opens up possibilities that would not have emerged working alone. She appreciates ADC’s willingness to look beyond the limits of a specific scope when there is an opportunity to make the overall project better.
Outside the office, Ellie’s curiosity extends to art, sculpture, interiors, travel, local markets, and antique shops. She is drawn to authentic objects and places that have a story behind them, and she enjoys discovering how culture, food, architecture, and everyday life give different places their character.
